It covers female art since the 1940 and also has a paragraph on the Women’s Caucus for Art’s creation.

Please try to keep all book titles related to art, art history, art Stories(fiction), Art Technique, Art Bio or auto Bio, Art Documentaries. Let's get to know our members - weekly (Jane Jaskevich)

Jane Jaskevich  sees the inner form of the stone or wood she works on. She says that she sometimes sees herself more as a midwife than a creator because she the process is a way to help the stone or wood give birth to the form inside rather her creating something that isn't there.

She calls herself a direct carver and uses various tools like a pneumatic tooth chisel, 4 inch diamond blades, carbide and diamond burrs, and air grinders. Up to seven grades of sandpaper and wax for the polished finish.
Her work with Greco-Roman influences are transcendental, symbolic allegorical and mysterious. She has been part of shows and has been winning awards since 1983. You can see her work at Galleries like 16 Patton in Asheville, NC and she has interviewed on Atlanta’s Public Radio NPR WABE 90.1.

Visit her website for more information, more images of her work and for contact details.

The Bookworm Artist

This is part of the WCAGA Book Discussion Group.

Vickey Martin submitted the following titles.

  1. “The Art of War: Winning the Inner Creative Battle”
  2. “A Short Life of Trouble: Forty Years in the New York Art World”

Vickie Martin says that she read a lot about Art History and got stuck on the fascinating world of Art Theft and Forgery for now. Read her Blog to find out how this interest in the exiting criminal world of art started with a book titled “The Forgery of Venus.” Available on her Blog is more books on this theme.

Thank You Vickie for starting this blog post off with these wonderful titles.

Let's get to know our members - weekly (Dory Ingram)

Dory Ingram

When you see the “Carapace Caretta” hanging from the ceiling you do want to go stand underneath it and feel its protection encircling you. So it did not surprise me when I read that the intention of the Carapace Project which include the “Carapace Caretta” and the “Shield Wall” symbolize the exoskeleton of animals like turtles. It represents that which grow with a person, that which are continuously changing by how you choose to protect yourself from threatening events around you.

The “Brood Year” Series deals with the connection between man and insect. The life cycle of the cicadas, specifically the “thirteen-year Locusts” played an important part in Dory Ingram’s Life as they appear to the thirteen year old artist and made her aware of the cycle of all living things. This cycle of life, fight to live and survive, the foolish struggle against aging are also themes in Dory Ingram’s “Apokryphos” and “Fool’s Paradise.”

Please Visit Ingram's Website for a detailed Resume which includes several group and solo exhibitions. Contact details also available on her website

    2676 Clairmont Road NE
    Atlanta, GA 30329

Some of the committees (hospitality) come into action only when needed. So you can be part of an action committee, and an occasional-need committee,  without over extending yourself.”(Judy Parady WCAGA President)

Let's get to know our members - weekly (Nancy Hunter)

NANCY HUNTER

There is a strong connection between Nancy Hunter and every object around her. She arrange these objects to express this connection. Her work is grounded in realism but there is a sense of mystery in all her work, especially her still life paintings. With a basis in geometric abstraction and taking from artists like Wassily Kadinsky and Piet Mondrian she creates a pattern and rhythm in her compositions. This pattern and rhythm speak to the subconscious of the viewer and it is only after the paintings are completed that Hunter realizes the connection between her inner struggles and the objects and arrangements she used.

In her landscapes representations she uses dramatic perspective that call the viewer into the composition and make an individual “portrait” of the scene. Her figures are equally strong and she wants to bring out the fact that people react to the figure in profound and unique ways.

Please have a look at her website for more details and to contact Nancy Hunter.  Or read her blog.
