This weeks WCA artist is Jan Chenoweth.

It is difficult to explain Chenoweth’s work. It will make you stop and look and think.  It can be explained as memory glimpses. She herself do not like to explain her work in an artist statement, but she has been involved in art making since the 70s. It is worthwhile to have a look at more of her work at Chenoweth.Halligan Studios

Marilynn Brandenburger radiates light and mystery that one also sees in her work. She is an award-winning  American artist that works mostly in colored pencil, oil pastel or watercolor. Her landscape painting originates from 20 plus years of sketching, taking photographs while hiking, and enjoying her love for nature. Her interiors and exteriors provide images for meditation and contemplation while her Still Life Paintings give the viewer a peek into the world of artists’ studio. Lets Get to Know our members - Weekly

This week's featured artist is Jessica Cook. She is an Atlanta Based artist.

About the Artist:

She has always been intrigued and inspired by the endless varieties of human expression. Creating figurative works has helped her observe and listen closely, to move beyond first impressions and to empathize with others. Her inspiration often comes from travel or her sketches of everyday scenes.
In her still lifes, she focuses on ordinary objects—perhaps a shirt, a flower, a teapot—and using loose brushstrokes, energetic rhythms and bold color, she works to make them extraordinary and to remind herself how important these small items can be.
As she evolves as an artist, she abstracts the figure more, playing with exaggerated color and focusing on shapes and movement to capture the emotion and spirit of the person or of a particular scene. Ultimately, she wants people to be uplifted by her art or to participate in it in some way by creating their own story.

She is currently working on a new series and a commission, please go to her website for more details, work and contact details.

Center for Chemical Evolution’s Call for Project Grants in the Arts

For Immediate Release: January 5, 2011

Program Contact: Center for Chemical Evolution, Meisa Salaita, meisa.salaita@emory.edu, 404-727-8953; Media Contact: Emory College Center for Creativity & Arts, Jessica Cook, jessica.l.cook@emory.edu, 404-727-1687
Center for Chemical Evolution’s Call for Project Grants in the Arts
Funding for Art-Science Collaborations

ATLANTA—The Center for Chemical Evolution (CCE) invites visual, literary and performing artists and filmmakers to collaborate with CCE scientists to create works of art that explore the origins of life chemistry. Along with support from the Center for Creativity & Arts at Emory University (CCA), the CCE will provide seed funds (up to $3,000) to help artists develop ideas that can bring the cutting-edge research of the CCE to the public.  Beginning in the fall of 2011 and extending into 2015, artists may apply for larger grants to further develop their ideas.  Deadline for submission of proposals for seed funds is February 1, 2011, 4 p.m. EST. The grant application and guidelines are available at www.centerforchemicalevolution.com/node/50
Funded by the National Science Foundation and NASA, the CCE is a multi-institutional research effort to study the chemical origins of life. The CCE scientists are at the forefront of demonstrating that small molecules present in the early earth and its atmosphere reacted with one another and self assembled to form larger molecules that resemble biology’s macromolecules. A central mission of the Center is to carry this research beyond the laboratory and into the public; the CCE seeks artists interested in exploring this topic in creative and insightful ways that will help teach the greater community about the origins of life.

January 2011 Newsletter edited by Kate Colpitts

The January newsletter for 2011 is out, Edited by Kate Colpitts. the WCA exhibition. It is bursting with creativity and excitement. Of note is the WCA exhibition   BRAINSTORM: Multi Media Exhibition at Atlanta’s Central Library Gallery

Art Opportunity that benefit Animal wellness causes

The Athletic Club NE has an art Lobby Gallery and they have spots available, Each show will run eight weeks and 20% will go to charity. There is a few spots left for 2011.

Davis says: "Artists are expected to have an opening and invite their friends and
of course, a few who might find the club of interest.  However, there
is no pressure sales or anything offensive that takes place.

The environment is corporate so politically charged or erotically
themed work will not fly.  Otherwise the subject matter can range
broadly.  Wall space only is available, so 2d work is all that can be
accommodated."
Contact the organizer Barbara Davis by sending email to bevandavis@earthlink.net for more precise details.
